The story behind Band Wagon
Band Wagon is intended to be an engaging and whimsical board game that introduces users to the fun world of board games. What started as a concept created from the CUDO Plays Game Design Bootcamp, quickly turned into a passion project for our team of three.
We were initially tasked with making a pickup & delivery and area control style game that was also music and Renaissance themed. While initially a challenging proposal, we found ourselves in love with the concept we drummed up together. Realizing that we had a lot in common and a shared passion for the project, we continued to meet and turn that concept into a playable game.
After a couple sessions of trying to make area control work, we felt like switching the mechanic to a deck builder helped bring everything together without forcing something that might have hurt the game rather than improving.
Once we had a framework, the game quickly started taking on more and more life. CUDO's guidance and support for playtesting helped us to refine our concepts and hone in on what makes our game fun and unique. The game also started taking shape through its theming and charm.
From the flavor text on the movement cards, punny band and tavern names, to the craftsmanship of the tokens and player boards. The thought and care that has gone into the development of this game is evident throughout. The people behind the passion are shown through the creativity and combination of skills and interests that help refine the game and make it into the fun experience that it is.
This game combines pick-up and deliver and deck-building and turns them into an approachable and engaging game for a wide variety of audiences, that's sure to offer replay ability and fun times for all.
